Folly Beach County Park SC is one of the most popular beaches in Charleston. It offers stunning views and plenty of activities to enjoy with the family.

The park offers a variety of amenities, including bathrooms, showers, changing facilities, beach chair and umbrella rentals, a snack bar, and endless miles of pristine sand. It is also easily accessible! Click here for more info.

Easy Access

The Folly Beach County Park is on the isolated west end of Folly Island and was closed after Hurricane Irene in 2011 because of beach erosion. It reopened in 2013 and is now an extremely popular spot for beachgoers.

Parking is available in a large lot that is only limited to busy summer days. A daily parking fee is required which includes access for all persons in your vehicle. Credit cards are accepted. The fee covers amenities such as outdoor showers, portable toilets, and a seasonal snack bar/retail shopping area for when you’re ready to go back to your car and head home.

The best way to avoid getting stuck in the parking lot traffic is to arrive at the park early. We recommend that you plan to be there by 10:00 am. This will give you a good chance of finding parking close to the bathrooms and showers or even closer to the pier and restaurants if you’d like.

Pet Friendly

One of the best things about Folly Beach County Park is that it’s pet friendly! Bring your furry friend along on a stroll through the park, or head out to the ocean. Just be sure to keep them leashed at all times, and don’t disturb wildlife or other visitors.

Folly Beach County Park SC is located on the southwestern tip of Folly Island, situated between the Atlantic Ocean and the Folly River. With 4,000 feet of beachfront and 100 acres of highland, the park has something for everyone.

Enjoy a sunrise or sunset on the beach, fish from the pier, or comb the shoreline for shellfish. Whatever you do, remember to always stay hydrated and watch out for riptides. Dogs are allowed on the beach year-round but are prohibited during the hours of 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from May 1 to September 30. Breaching these rules will result in a fine of up to $500. Variety of Amenities

In addition to a beach, there are many amenities for visitors to Folly Beach County Park to enjoy. A snack bar, public beach access, outdoor showers, and picnic areas are just a few of the many features of this beach park.

The beach here is a popular swimming destination all year round, though it gets chilly in the winter. You’ll also see surfers at the beach and pier, and Isla Surf School offers lessons for all ages.

A new Dunes House building has opened in the park with restrooms, offices, and space for lifeguard staff. It is designed with break-away walls on the first floor to prevent storm surge damage.

There are a number of other things to do at the park, including fishing off the Folly Beach Pier, taking in a live music performance, or enjoying the scenery of the historic downtown district. The Charleston Museum, Fort Sumter National Monument, and Charleston Aquarium are all within a short drive of the beach.

Fun for the Whole Family

The beach is obviously the main attraction at Folly Beach County Park, but there are plenty of other activities for families to enjoy as well. The pristine Atlantic waters offer visitors the chance to boogie board, surf, swim, or even take out a boat or water ski for some exciting fun in the sun.

For those interested in taking in the sights, the park offers a variety of bird watching and nature walks that allow visitors to explore some of the area’s natural beauty. It’s also home to some unique local businesses, including Charleston SUP Safaris, a company that takes guests on stand-up paddleboard lessons and tours along the Folly River, and Flipper Finders, a kayaking tour and fishing charter service.

Because Folly Beach County Park isn’t as heavily trafficked as some other areas of the beach, you can often find a spot to park with ease. However, during peak season, it’s still best to get there early to avoid the crowds. Discover more interesting articles.
